Correct Body Mount Flat Washers for 1966 & 1967

*** NEW ITEM ***

If you’re doing a body-off restoration or if you’re just refreshing the body mount fasteners on your 1966 or 1967 Corvette, then you might have purchased a body mount kit from one the Corvette reproduction parts companies. Whether you purchased the kit from Zip, or Corvette Central, or Ecklers, or Volunteer Vette, or you name the company, or you previously purchased a kit from Paragon or Long Island Corvette before they went out of business, then you know that every nut, bolt, lock washer and fiat washer in those reproduction kits is plated in bright zinc. Unfortunately, apart from the bolts, zinc plating is not the correct finish for most of those items.

For 1966 and 1967, there are three different flat washers associated with the body mount hardware: GM 3790768, GM 3760886, and GM 3830796. The first two of those washers are relatively thick, at 0.12”. GM 3790768 has an outer diameter of 1.12”, and GM 3760886 has an outer diameter of 1.88”. Both of those GM washers were black phosphate and oil treated. Not zinc. The large washers sold by the catalog companies are 2.0” in diameter, which is distinctly too large. You will not find the correct washers at any hardware store. When installed on a car, the washers at the front body mount where the frame and core support meet, and at body mount #1 and #4 are very easily seen by the judges. The incorrect zinc washers at the visible body mount locations stick out like a sore thumb, As does the incorrect outer diameter of the large washers. I have a limited supply of equivalent washers to GM 3790768 and GM 3760886 with the correct GM dimensions and the correct black phosphate and oil finish. I can find no specifications for GM 3830796, which is only used on roadsters. If you have a roadster, it will be up to you to research GM 3830796 to determine what dimensions and finish are correct.

The next image shows the differences between the catalog company reproduction flat washers on the left, and the flat washers I have to sell on the right.

For ‘66 and 67 Corvettes I have kits for sale with these washers:

For ‘66 and 67 Coupes: GM 3790768 qty = 4; GM 3760886 qty = 6

I sell a kit of 10 washers for ‘66/‘67 coupes for all body mount locations for $30, plus $7.00 shipping, for a total of $37.

For ‘66 and 67 Roadsters: GM 3790768 qty = 6; GM 3760886 qty = 4

I sell a kit of 10 washers for ‘66/‘67 roadsters for most body mount locations for $25, plus $7 shipping, for a total of $32. (At this point in time I cannot provide an accurate equivalent for washer GM 3830796, of which a total of two are required at body mount #1 on roadsters. At this time, I can only suggest you use the two washers that come in the typical catalog company repro kit as a substitute for GM 3830796.)

It’s these small details that differentiate a 2nd Flight restoration a Top Flight car, or a Top Flight from a Duntov car. My motto is: Do it once, and do it right.
